Today, SNK was going to give fighting game fans more details about Samurai Shodown Season 3 and The King of Fighters 15. Unfortunately, this announcement was delayed practically at the last minute.

Samurai Shodown is a long-running fighting game franchise and a new entry was released back in mid-2019. Since then, the developers have launched a couple of Season Passes and were all set to announce more details about the third one as explained in the video below.

As for The King of Fighters 15, was first teased back at EVO 2019 — that's almost a year-and-a-half ago. As with Samurai Shodown, this franchise has been going since the early 90s and has a very loyal base of fans.

SNK has been relatively quiet on the subject since then and many fans were looking forward to more details being revealed today in the above trailer. Unfortunately, it looks like something hasn't quite gone to plan — SNK has made the disappointing announcement that it will be delaying today's planned

No New Date for Samurai Shodown Season 3 or The King of Fighters 15 Reveal

Today's announcement regarding Samurai Shodown Season 3 and The King of Fighters 15 was originally scheduled to go live today at 9:00 PM Eastern. Something apparently has changed behind the scenes — SNK has announced a delay roughly 10 hours before it was supposed to go live. SNK also noted that it doesn't yet have a new date for the announcements.

Why did this happen? SNK didn't go into details, but one reason could be due to the ongoing pandemic. Japan's government is planning on declaring a state of emergency for Tokyo and three surrounding prefectures (states or provinces, essentially) for a period of one month. This may have thrown a wrench in the works, but it could also be something else entirely.

SNK has stated that it will inform fans when it sets a new date for the announcement. For now, you can keep yourself busy with Samurai Shodown on the Epic Games Store for PC starting at $49.99 or your regional equivalent; console players can get it for the sale price of $29.99 on the Nintendo Switch or for $35.99 on the PS4. Otherwise, you can get it on Xbox for its full price of $59.99.
