Skullgirls 2nd Encore Coming to Switch and Xbox One This Spring

Skybound Games has announced the arrival of Skullgirls 2nd Encore on Switch and Xbox One this spring. Both the Xbox One and Switch will get digital versions, but Skybound is also producing a limited physical edition for the Switch. The boxed edition comes with the game, a switch controller skin and the soundtrack on a 12" vinyl record. The limited edition will run you $49.99. There's no release date or price set for Skullgirls 2nd Encore as of yet, but Skybound is targeting a "Spring 2019" launch, and based on the limited edition listing, it should cost around $29.99.

As far as 2D hand-drawn fighters are concerned, Skullgirls ranks near the top for indie fighters. Sporting a "dark deco" look, where characters and animations are set against dark backgrounds, Skullgirls sports a fantastical cast in a 1920s/1930s world. With an emphasis on combos and stylish action, Skullgirls made a name for itself upon release in 2012. The 2nd Encore upgrade came out for Steam back in 2016 and contains all of the DLC characters and costumes, as well as fully voicing the story, and adding new challenges, tutorials, and a Survival Mode. The 2nd Encore upgrade already hit the Vita, PS4, PC and Arcade versions of Skullgirls, and is finally marking the series' first appearance on a Nintendo console, as well as the Xbox One.

Skybound Entertainment is the media company founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and expanded into games with Skybound Games. In the news recently for picking up and publishing Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season, it would seem as though Skybound is looking to branch beyond their already-owned properties. Skybound Games is their publishing division, and have already released The Long DarkOxenfreeSlime Rancher, and Death's Gambit for consoles. Additionally, in taking over The Walking Dead, Skybound is also handling distribution rights for The Wolf Among Us, along with other Telltale games. Hopefully, this partnership with Lab Zero leads to more high-quality console releases in the future.
