EA has announced that the Skate 2 servers for PlayStation and Xbox will be shutting down in a little less than a month, bringing an end to over a decade of skateboarding fun.
The Skate franchise has been pretty dead since the launch of Skate 3. Everything changed when EA officially announced a new Skate game last year. We've yet to see any substantial gameplay, although the devs have confirmed that it's going to be getting a PC release.
There hasn't been much in the way of major news since last summer. Unfortunately, EA did have something to announce today -- it's going to be shutting down the online servers for Skate 2 next month.
"Additionally, we’re providing a heads up that on December 10, 2021, we will be turning off the Skate 2 online servers for PlayStation and Xbox," read a tweet from the official Skate account. "It’s not an easy decision and not something we take lightly. For more info check: https://ea.com/service-updates"
The timing of this announcement was particularly strange -- it was made shortly after Microsoft held its Xbox 20th Anniversary Celebration event. The Skate Twitter account -- as with most big gaming accounts -- quote-retweeted Xbox's tweet and it decided to make this announcement as a reply.
When Are the Skate 2 Servers Shutting Down on PlayStation and Xbox?
The Skate 2 servers will be shutting down on December 10, 2021, for PC and Xbox. While this may be disappointing for some, there's still the option to play Skate 3 on console for now.
Gamers surely had tons of fun with Skate 2; this is certainly the end of the era. In the meantime, you'll still be able to play Skate 3 (for now, anyways) and you can look forward to the upcoming release of the new Skate game... whenever the heck it's ready.
