Co-op zombie shooter World War Z has received a new update. The Six Skulls pack is available to download right now on PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC version following shortly.

Six Skulls introduces the new Extreme six-skull difficulty mode to World War Z. You can play all currently released chapters on six-skull difficulty. Saber Interactive says playing on Extreme will require careful resource conservation, strategic planning skills, and a skilled trigger finger. You'll be able to collect unique rewards for completing chapters on the new difficulty setting. Check out the trailer for World War Z's Six Skulls update below:

The rewards for completing chapters on the new difficulty setting are pretty nifty. Finishing just one level on Extreme will grant you the unique Wakizashi melee weapon. If you're skilled enough to finish all levels on six-skull mode, you'll receive a unique modified Mk110 sniper rifle. If you've just put down World War Z and you're looking for an excuse to pick it up again, the Six Skulls update should do nicely.

This patch doesn't just bring a new difficulty setting. Saber Interactive has tweaked how ammo crates work in a pretty big way. If you're playing on Easy or Normal difficulty, ammo crates will grant unlimited refills. If you're on Hard, you'll only get 12 ammo refills from each crate. Insane and Extreme difficulty players will only receive 6 refills. The amount of ammo you get from each crate depends on what weapon you're using and how much you've already got left; the above numbers are averages. There are also a bunch of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements in the Six Skulls update. You can check out the full patch notes here for more info.

It's all go for World War Z right now. Six Skulls follows last month's Undead Sea update, which brought a new mission and infected type to the game. Saber says it's planning to introduce the creatively-named "The Big Update" in the near future, which will add a new weekly challenge mode as well as new weapon variants, character skins, and accessories. Lots to look forward to for World War Z players. In the meantime, check out TechRaptor's review of the game.

The free Six Skulls update is available to download for World War Z on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The update will become available for PC through the Epic Games Store soon.
