EA found itself in quite a debacle with their release of the much anticipated new SimCity game a year ago. Now, finally, there is an update that will allow players to enjoy SimCity offline, rather than having to be at the whims of the EA servers.

Many of the core gameplay mechanics will still be key to the singleplayer experience, such as the multiple city gameplay, where each city is dependent on the other for certain resources. So, SimCity will essentially play exactly the same.
However, the offline mode does offer some changes. For one, you can create multiple saves which will allow you to experiment. That means you can destroy a city for the fun of it, but easily revert back to how it was before.
The biggest change is that the offline mode opens the game up to modding. That means there could be endless possibilities to what SimCity can offer, if the modding community decides to get behind it. It is hard to speculate exactly what they will be able to do, but with some of the craziness that you see in games like Skyrim, anything could happen.
It is also prudent to note that the singleplayer saves will not be transferable to online play.
You have to wonder though, considering the way SimCity launched, are many people even interested in the game anymore? I won't lie, the fact that there is an offline mode now, with the possibility for modding in the future, has piqued my interests.
What do you think?
