Earlier today, London-based publisher Rising Star Games announced a physical release for the 3DS version of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse.

The announcement on their website states that they will release the retail version of the Wayforward-developed 2D platformer on September 27th in North America. Europe will see the game’s release three days later, on September 30th.

As the announcement states, “Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on Nintendo 3DS™ from Rising Star Games marks the first time a Shantae game will be made available to players as a physical release in over a decade.”

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

On top of getting a physical release, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse will also boast exclusive content on the game cart. This new content is a game, called “Super Shantae Nab!!”, and will only be available in said physical release according to their website. Rising Star Games did not release more details on the extra content in their announcement.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse tells the story of the hair-whipping half-genie Shantae. She must use her abilities to stop, you guessed it, an evil pirate curse. Shantae must explore the many islands of Sequin Land to find a way to beat the curse. She does this by utilizing a variety of pirate-themed items and weapons she finds on her journey.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

This 3DS-exclusive physical edition of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse will be retailing at $29.99 starting September 27th. In Europe, it will be available September 30th for £29.99/€29.99.

Quick Take

I got Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse as part of the Humble Friends of Nintendo Bundle. It instantly turned me into a series fan. No joke, I beat this game 100% on Wii U, then immediately downloaded the previous two titles on 3DS. It’s a fantastic platformer and I can’t recommend it enough. If you haven’t tried it, you should consider hopping on board!
