Last month, Cygames celebrated their popular digital collectible card game Shadowverse reaching seven million downloads from interested players across the world. Today, a press release from Cygames indicates that the game has hit yet another milestone, with a total of eight million downloads of the game from the various clients it is hosted on.
Originally released in Japan on June 17, 2016 for mobile devices, Shadowverse received an English Steam release on October 28, 2016. Despite the game's youth and linearity compared to other card games, such as Magic: The Gathering, it quickly garnered a competitive tournament scene in both Japan and North America, as well as dedicated discussion forums.
To celebrate this milestone, Cygames will be running an in-game promotion for players, offering a total of eight packs of the most recent set expansion Rise of Bahamut. All players have to do to receive their promotional packs is log in and play the game; the first time they do so they will receive four packs of Rise of Bahamut and will receive one additional Rise of Bahamut pack per subsequent day for a maximum of eight packs.
This promotion will run from 5:00 a.m. of March 09, 2017 (JST) until 5:00 a.m. of March 29, 2017 (JST).
Cygame's milestone and promotion announcement comes in the middle of current previews for the recently announced Tempest of the Gods expansion set, which will be made available to players by the end of March 2017.
Shadowverse is currently available free-to-play on Steam, as well as on Google Play and the App Store, with some minor optional micro-transactions that can be avoided without any noticeable impact on gameplay experience.
