Shadowrun: Hong Kong Release Date

Good news, chummer. Though release date predictions for Kickstarter projects are a tenuous affair at best, once in a blue moon someone returns from the astral plane with powers unimagined. Such is the case with Kickstarter developers Harebrained Schemes who’ve announced today that their latest project, Shadowrun: Hong Kong will come to PCs on August 20th 2015, which is pretty much bang on the money from their original estimate:

The previous games in the series are the well-received Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall, the latter of which was billed as an expansion pack and didn't require further Kickstarter funds. Shadowrun: Dragonfall would later be given a standalone rerelease called Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut, free to all players who had bought the title previously.

This latest project Shadowrun: Hong Kong raised over a million dollars ($1,204,726 to be exact) from 31,497 backers and will also be a standalone product. Though the amount pledged is less than the Kickstarter for Shadow Returns, so is the asking price. Only $100,000 was requested compared to Shadow Returns $400,000 because the developer had already committed their funds to the project and wanted to know if their fans would be interested in putting up the money to flesh it out further, giving the game the full production treatment they believe it deserves. Apparently the answer from fans was a resounding yes.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong features a new crew of emotionally crippled scoundrels getting into all sorts of mischief. Harebrained Schemes promises a tightly written dozen hour story set in the grimy bowels of, where else, Hong Kong.

Quick Take

Oh my. I liked Shadowrun Returns well enough, but we’re just good friends. Shadowrun: Dragonfall is the one I sensually caress every night before I close my eyes and dream about wandering rain-soaked neon-lit streets. It was my game of the year for 2014, and not a moment was wasted in its perfect contained campaign. From what it looks like, Shadowrun: Hong Kong is more of the same!
