Across many years and several different developers, the Shadowrun IP continues to receive love and attention. This time, it's Cliffhanger Productions that brings us our latest cyberpunk fix, not to be confused with the guys behind the critically acclaimed Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Harebrained Schemes. Cliffhanger's a little bit newer to the scene, but just as dedicated to delivering gamers an excellent Shadowrun experience. Bring your credstick and assemble your party,  because Shadowrun Chronicals: Boston Lockdown just came out of Early Access.

What sets this title apart from other recent Shadowrun offerings are its multiplayer features. Indeed, Shadowrun Chronicles was originally known as Shadowrun Online, but the name was changed to address concerns that people might mistake it for an MMO, which it is not.

What is Shadowrun Chronicles then? It's a co-op or single player turn-based strategy RPG. Up to four players can cooperatively tackle missions together. While I'm not exactly sure how well this dynamic works in a turn-based strategy, cooperative play has been receiving positive comments from players. Unfortunately, one promised feature that didn't make it to release along with the rest of the game was PVP. Thankfully, the developers have indicated they are working on patching it in.

Having lovingly been described as "Xcom with magic," Shadowrun Chronicles seems to focus more on combat than story and character development. The title has collected a substantial amount of 'mostly positive' reviews, spanning from its Early Access days to present. Indeed, Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown seems to be off to a great start.

While there have been favorable comparisons to Xcom, more critical gamers have stated that Boston Lockdown is a little light on features. However, many that stated this have also indicated confidence in Cliffhanger's intention to add-to and improve the title as time passes.

As a huge fan of the Shadowrun universe, I look forward to getting my hands on the title. In the mean time, if you've purchased Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown, I'd be interested to know your thoughts and impressions in the comments section below.
