Despite Shadow Warrior 2 making a splash earlier this year at PAX East and elsewhere, Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog have been quiet regarding when exactly in 2016 the game will drop. Thanks to a QuakeCon interview with Devolver's Nigel Lowrie given to European outlet Gamereactor, we know have a better picture.
"It's coming out next month, we haven't set the date yet, but we are... it's gonna come out next month. PC first. PC is the first platform, then it's coming out to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after that."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ45LTOwiwg
Shadow Warrior 2 will see the return of Lo Wang and the over the top shooting action of the last game, while also bringing in procedurally generated levels and various weapon variants to loot. We have yet to see how this new structure will affect the game as a whole, with some fans remaining skeptical about the changes to the original's linear campaign. In any case, we now know that we won't have too much longer to wait before we find out.
Quick Take
As someone who loves both old school FPS and roguelites, I'm very excited to see how well Flying Wild Hog can execute on their plans for Shadow Warrior 2. I understand those who are skeptical about the new features, but I am confident after my hands-on time with the game that the gameplay will shine through any growing pains. Even if the structure is a challenge for players to deal with, any game where you can dual wield miniguns that shoot poison bullets can't be all bad right?
