Second Extinction was announced at Xbox's Inside Xbox conference today, with the game being developed by Systemic Reaction, a little development studio located in southern Sweden.
Second Extinction is described as a "high-concept" title, with co-op up to three people. Of course, you could play it alone, but this looks like a game that really shines with friends.
The game itself is about hunting dinosaurs that have taken over the planet, with some people who managed to escape setting up a group called the ERA on an orbital station. Now that humanity has restocked itself, they are ready to descend back to Earth and kick some dinosaur ass, choosing from a roster of four survivors which will continue to be added to after Second Extinction's launch.
Players will be able to join up with their friends, pick a mission, load-out, and then go down to Earth and start shooting. Once the mission and its goals have been completed, players will then have to go to an extraction site in order for the group to make it out alive. Once back home, players will be able to use their rewards to purchase new weaponry, upgrade them, and then go back down to shoot more dinosaurs.
As Systemic Reaction is part of the Avalanche Studios group, Second Extinction will be utilizing the APEX engine, which will help give the game the large open world that Just Cause is known for.
The game will be a live product which will mean that there is a unique feature live-service feature called The War Effort... which is all they are willing to talk about at this time.
