Yo ho yo ho it's a pirates life for me. Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves will be opening up its Pirate Emporium, which will bring Sea of Thieves microtransactions, allowing players to buy all sorts of small items in transactions using real money.

The first thing you need to do is get to a Pirate Emporium to purchase items. The store can be accessed from the main menu, but it will also be a physical store in the game that you can find. Pirate Emporiums will be located in all outposts in a structure above the Order of Souls.

What are the Sea of Thieves Microtransactions?

Sea of Thieves microtransactions use the new currency of Ancient Coin, which you can get by buying in bundles ranging from $1.50 to $34.99. You can also fight the all new Ancient Skeletons, who will drop Ancient Coins when they die, assuming you can manage to kill them before they run away. So now that you got the coins, what can you spend them on?

Some of the stuff is about what you'd expect from in-game microtransactions. There's new emotes, like a coin flip or fancy jig. You can also get special "heritage" items that let you customize your ship with pieces of Rare history. For example, the first heritage item set is the Bear and Bird, a reference to Rare's famous Banjo-Kazooie series. However, the biggest items to get are pets. All new to Sea of Thieves, at the current time you can get parrots or monkeys. They'll have their own personalities and you can name them and dress them up. They don't have gameplay benefits, but they seem to be full of personality and will react to events as they happen. Also, there's a monkey named "Marcus Fleanix" so I mean that's an amazing thing.

Sea of Thieves is currently available on PC and Xbox One. The Pirate Emporium opens up today.

Are you going to shop at the Pirate Emporium? Still playing Sea of Thieves? Think a store run by pirates may possibly be a bad idea? Let us know in the comments below!
