Rare and Microsoft have announced a number of new features coming to Sea of Thieves as part of the Sea Of Thieves Anniversary Update, to celebrate it releasing a year ago in March.

The news was announced by the two studios on the official Xbox website, where they thanked fans for playing Sea of Thieves and detailed some of the upcoming features fans can expect in the game. The Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update will be released on April 30th and is poised to be the game's biggest content update so far. To celebrate the occasion, Rare is giving players a chance to check out some of the new features via Mixer, Twitch, or YouTube, where they'll be streaming some info prior to the Anniversary Update's release. Here's the schedule for those streams according to the above blog post:

  • Wednesday, April 10th - 9:00 am PT: The Arena
Find out more about the all-new competitive game mode that will let you and your friends test yourselves against other crews in fun and fast-paced matches to amass the most loot.
  • Tuesday, April 16th - 9:00 am PT: The Hunter's Call
The Hunter’s Call is a new trading company that gives you more ways to play and progress towards Pirate Legend. Find out more about what you can do, the company behind it and the rewards on offer.
  • Tuesday, April 23rd - 9:00 am PT: Tall Tales - Shores of Gold
This is Sea of Thieves like you’ve never seen it before. Tall Tales are a collection of story-rich quests that are played out in our shared world and can be fully experienced by yourself or with your crew. This first collection, ‘Shores of Gold’, invites you to embark on an epic adventure of love, honor, and betrayal in search of the mythical Shores of Gold.

In addition to these events, Rare has added a range of items and unlockables to the game to "help everyone celebrate". These items include new quests, extra equipment, and Gamerpics for players' Xbox Live profiles. Rather uniquely, "We Shall Sail Together", one of the tavern tunes from the game, will be released via digital music outlets for free. There's more info coming on the Anniversary Update, so stay tuned for more news when we get it. In the meantime, check out TR's review of the game right here.
