The game was originally announced back in February 2017 and is a collaboration between the creators of adventure games Kathy Rain (Clifftop) and The Samaritan Paradox (Faravid). The devs say they've been working on some "final augmentations" for Whispers of a Machine since December when publisher Raw Fury revealed a bunch of info about the game. You'll be able to play it on Windows and Mac as well as iOS and Android devices.
Whispers of a Machine is set in a world where AI has been outlawed for almost a hundred years. Players will control Vera, a cybernetically augmented agent for the "Central Bureau", who is dispatched to investigate a murder case. What begins as a routine investigation becomes a complexly woven web of intrigue at the heart of which is the potential revival of AI. If that description whets your appetite, check out the (admittedly brief) trailer below:
The trailer doesn't give away very much about the game, but you can get a feel for its art style and aesthetic. Gameplay-wise, the game is a point-and-click adventure title along the same lines as the two studios' previous work. Fans of Unavowed and the Blackwell games will be pleased to know that Wadjet Eye's Dave Gilbert is directing the dialogue and voice acting. Players will be able to choose between three styles for protagonist Vera's investigation style: empathetic, analytical, and assertive. The choices players make will inform the outcomes of puzzles and the nature of Vera's augmentations.
Whisper of a Machine will be available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android on April 17th. Look out for more coverage of the game from TechRaptor in the future. In the meantime, you can check out the game's official Steam page right here.
