Any Twin Peaks fans out there? If so, this latest Kickstarter game may be just the ticket for you. Entitled Trüberbrook, this adventure game comes from Germany and is produced by btf and will be published by Headup Games.

You play as American scientist Hans Tannhauser, on vacation in Europe in 1967, who won a lottery he doesn’t remember entering and ends up in Trüberbrook, a remote village in Germany. Mysterious incidents start to occur around Hans and it’s up to him to investigate this small and perhaps not so sleepy town. Oh, and he has to save the world too. Though the plot details are sparse, the team lists their inspirations from sources as diverse as Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Stranger Things, and Star Trek. So, we can expect to see some aliens and alternate universes are a safe bet. The game promises a wide cast of eccentric characters and a clash of sci-fi, mystery and Heimatfilm tropes.

What really stands out about Trüberbrook is that, similar to The Dream Machine, all of the backgrounds of Trüberbrook have been handmade and constructed before being digitized into the game. Everything, from the fluffy rug to the tiny painting of Nessie, was actually in existence in the real world before being scanned into the game.

The goal of the project is 80,000 Euros and the game is already partially financed by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. Tier rewards include a digital copy of the game and your name in the credits and range all the way up to include such things as a physical boxed copy of the game, a digital art book, and a set piece. If you really want to shell out, you can also get yourself included in the game as part of the ancestral gallery or a personal studio tour.

Boasting an estimated 7 – 10 hours of gameplay, Trüberbrook is scheduled for release in late 2018 for Windows, Mac and Linux as well as PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with both English and German localizations. A mobile port is also deemed “likely” by the developers. For more information click here to go to the Kickstarter page.
