Developer Ska Studios has announced that the upcoming Salt and Sacrifice PC release will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. The followup to indie hit Salt and Sanctuary is due to launch on PC and PlayStation consoles in early 2022.
When is the Salt and Sacrifice release date?
At the moment, all we know of the Salt and Sacrifice release date is that Ska Studios' Mage-slaying platformer will debut for PC, PS5, and PS4 sometime in Q1 next year. However, thanks to a press release by the developer, we know that the game will be an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, so if you want to play Salt and Sanctuary 2 and you're not a console gamer, that's where you'll need to be.
Will there be a Salt and Sacrifice Steam or Switch release?
Right now, it doesn't look like a Salt and Sacrifice Steam release is on the cards, nor does it seem like Ska Studios will be bringing the game to Nintendo Switch. Its predecessor did eventually launch for Nintendo's console and got a Steam release too, so it's possible we'll see Salt and Sacrifice hit these platforms eventually. Right now, though, it looks like you'll need a PC or a PlayStation if you want to play this one, as an Xbox release isn't looking likely anytime soon either.
Salt and Sacrifice is the followup to 2016's Soulslike Metroidvania Salt and Sanctuary. While it is a sequel, it's not really Salt and Sanctuary 2 in the traditional sense. It's still a platformer with an emphasis on exploration and combat, but the multiplayer features have been greatly expanded. You're a Marked Inquisitor who must set out to rid the land of Mages, corrupted entities with great magical power. You can do so alongside other players; co-op and PvP will form much more of a backbone in Salt and Sacrifice than they did in Sanctuary. There's more of a mission structure this time around, with Mage hunt missions granting resources for crafting and upgrading.
Salt and Sacrifice launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 early next year. We'll have to wait and see whether a Steam or Switch release materializes after the initial release. Until then, be sure to check out our preview of the game if you want to know how it ticks. You might be surprised by just how much has changed in Ska's new title.
