Volition has announced that the Saints Row release date has been pushed back to mid-2022, delaying the hotly-anticipated reboot by roughly six months.

We've learned a lot about Saints Row over the last few months. The driving and combat look as good as ever at first glance and the new city of Santo Ileso promises to provide players with a ton of fun. Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to have to wait a little longer to play this game -- Volition has decided to push back its launch six months.

"Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve," read a statement from Volition's Chief Creative Officer Jim Boone on the game's official website. "The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some [fine-tuning] and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish."

"In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive."

When is the New Saints Row Release Date?

The new Saints Row release date is August 23, 2022 -- that's roughly six months after its originally-announced launch date of February 25, 2022, pushing back the launch of the game from Q1 2022 to Q3 2022.

This wasn't the only delay announced, either -- as Embracer Group (which is the parent company of Volition and Deep Silver) has also delayed an "unannounced but earlier expected AAA title".

Considering the state that some games have been released in these days, it's good to see that Volition is serious about getting the launch of this game right. For now, you can pre-order Saints Row for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.

Are you disappointed by the Saints Row release date delay? Do you think this reboot will be able to live up to the previous games in the franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
