Rune 2 Lawsuit Underway Over Missing Game Assets, Source Code

Rune 2 lawsuit dragonfire

Rune 2 has had a bit of trouble lately. Following the closure of its developer Human Head Studios, the publisher Ragnarok Game alleges that they're missing assets they need to continue doing work.

A forum post on the official Rune 2 website details the issue. Human Head Studios suddenly closed pretty much right after the game launched on the Epic Games Store. That's not necessarily a huge problem — studios close all the time, after all — but what is a problem is that Ragnarok Game says that they're missing source codes and assets which they're rightfully owed.

Here is the relevant portion of the forum post explaining things:

Since Human Head’s sudden closure, announcement, and discovering the active concealment of their acquisition, we have repeatedly requested access to the final launch build source code and RUNE II game assets. This is so we can continue to support, update, and execute future DLC for our community. As part of the publishing agreement on RUNE II, Ragnarok Game LLC has paid for the development of these assets and is the rightful owner of them. After repeated refusals by Human Head to produce these assets, we’ve had no choice but to file a legal complaint in order to obtain the RUNE II game assets. We have exhausted all possible options before getting to this point.  This is not the step we wanted to take, but it is necessary in order to fulfill our promises to our community.

Rune 2 Still Moving Forward

Obviously, the situation isn't ideal and such a legal battle is sure to take some time. That's not to say that the development of the game is going to come to a standstill.

Although Ragnarok Game says that they're missing some important assets, they're going to continue on their work with this new release. It should be making its way to other PC platforms sometime in 2020. If you don't want to wait, you can buy Rune 2 on the Epic Games Store at the prices ranging from $29.99–$59.99 or your regional equivalent.
