[Rumor] Tie-In Publisher Accidentally Announces Mass Effect: Andromeda Release Date

Bioware has remained noticeably tight-lipped about the release date of the first entry in a new Mass Effect trilogy. Originally, Mass Effect: Andromeda was scheduled to release late this year, but was delayed to 2017 a few months ago. A more specific release date may have been accidentally revealed by the publisher of a tie-in comic.

This potential release date was spotted by Kevin McClusky, one of the writers for gaming news website Destructoid. In his article, McClusky notes that the Amazon page for The Art of Mass Effect: Andromeda, a book that features concept art of the upcoming space opera published by Dark Horse Comics, mentions a March 21 release date. This in and of itself isn't very notable, but a line in the book's description on the Amazon page is. According to the book's description, The Art of Mass Effect: Andromeda is supposed to release at the same time as the highly-anticipated game.

Another thing that gives this rumor a little more credibility is that the book, when ordered via Bioware's official online store, carries an estimated ship window in early 2017, which correlates with the March 21 release date mentioned on the Amazon page. Additionally, March 21 is not a date that is typically used as a placeholder for products with an unannounced release date.

Whether this is just a digital slip of the tongue or the unfortunate result of a typo remains to be seen. We have reached out to Bioware and Dark Horse for a comment and we will let you know if and when they send us a reply!

Quick Take

It's not much to go on, but the correlation between Bioware's official store and the book's page of Amazon is, at the very least, notable enough to warrant some investigation. Bioware has been keeping info on Mass Effect: Andromeda under wraps for quite a while now, and while they don't need to kickstart the hype machine yet, it might be nice to know when we can expect to play the game. At least, I'd like to mark my calendar!
