[Rumor] Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Dates Leaked?

Another day, another rumor, this time a major one that may have leaked some news from Nintendo.

The rumor is coming from sources at GameStop that are close to GoNintendo, which have revealed the release date windows for Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.  Both release dates are supposedly pre-empting Nitendo's E3 presentation on Tuesday.

Super Mario Odyssey is planned to be released on the Nintendo Switch on November 17th.  Xenoblade Chronicles 2 release date was pushed back and will be out in February of 2018 instead of this year.

According to the leak, Super Mario Odyssey is described by Nintendo as “Mario’s first sandbox-style game since Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine." The game will also be playable on the E3 show floor for attendees.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a direct sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles, with Monolith software stating that the game will feature a new hero who will seek “out Elysium on an immense journey through a brand-new world.”

Both games were first announced earlier this year at the Nintendo Switch Direct special back in January. At the time, both titles were scheduled to be released in the fall of this year.

Quick Take

GoNintendo is a fairly reliable source, but all rumors like this, of course, should be taken with a grain of salt. Of course, we know Nintendo will probably show off a ton of Super Mario Odyssey during E3, but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a bigger question mark.

In truth, the release dates weren't the biggest news to be shown about either game, as they are more or less in the timetable that Nintendo has planned for them. Mario coming out this year and getting most of the promotion for the Switch is a good move, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be a major title for the hardcore RPG crowd. If the rumor is true, it doesn't really change anything major for Nintendo.
