[RUMOR] Steam Christmas Sales Slated to Start on December 18th

It's that time of year again: hide your credit cards, as Gabe Newell is coming to town.

As first reported by the Steam subreddit, the Christmas Steam Sales seem to have a starting date of December 18th at 1 pm EST this year, based on emails received by Japanese users via Paypal. The sale will continue until Friday, January 2nd, 2015.  Word spread early this morning about the annual sale start date, which is a yearly tradition on Steam where users can pick up a number of titles at cheap prices, with percentages such as 33, 50, and 75 percent off. We have not gotten any official word here at TechRaptor to confirm at this time.

On the Steam subreddit, Reddit user Quantumbinman posted an email he received from Paypal Japan. The email shows the steam logo, and Japanese text with a 12/18 date, as well as an "up to 75%" off indicator. Thanks to someone who was able to translate here at TechRaptor, the image also indicates that over 3500 games will be on sale during the time of the sale, including on PC, Mac, and Linux. It also mentions "Steam TV", which is assumed to be the Steam Big Picture feature.

No details have been released regarding the theme or event that will occur with the Winter Sale this year. In years past, Steam Trading Cards were used as one way of creating a community event surrounding the sales. Earlier this year, the Summer Sale introduced a team based competition that divided the users into teams and compete with each other. The event had a mixed reception, so it is unclear what Valve will be doing this time around.

This, along with the fall sale being run by GOG.com that runs until December 15th, seems to give consumers a lot of options for cheap games during this holiday season, for either gifts for loved ones, or getting a game that one may have missed out on. As more information becomes available (and hopefully confirmation), we will do our best to pass it along.
