A Redditor going by the name of /u/droptheverse posted an image to the /r/reddeadredemption subreddit of pre-order cards for Red Dead Redemption 2 and stated that Target will begin taking pre-orders on February 5th, 2017.
The image was posted late Saturday afternoon to the Subreddit for the Red Dead Redemption series of games. Judging by the appearances of the cards in other articles such as this one from Nintendo Today and this one from Gamepur, the purported pre-order card seems to be visually consistent with Target's design.
Daily Star wrote a piece on the rumor and noted an interesting fact about the potential sale date - it's the same date as Superbowl LI. Opening pre-orders on game day would give Rockstar Games the opportunity to run an ad during one of the most-watched television events in America. The NFL's yearly Superbowl game is famed for its television advertisements; advertisers tend to pull out all the stops and get creative with the limited amount of time they have. That time comes at a premium - In 2015, CBS charged $5 million for a 30-second ad spot during the game.
As for Rockstar Games, all they've said on the matter of the game's release is that it's slated to come out sometime in Fall 2017.

Quick Take
The picture does seem to be visually consistent with Target's pre-order cards for video games, and it would make sense that Rockstar would release Red Dead Redemption 2 for pre-order during a high profile event like the Super Bowl. Still, there's only the one solitary source on this date; no matter how good the picture looks, we won't really know for sure until we hear from Rockstar themselves.Do you think the image posted by /u/droptheverse is genuine?
