An HD collection of last generation Batman Arkham games seems to be on the horizon according to a recent leak made by a GameStop employee. This GameStop employee sent a picture to Eurogamer that apparently confirms not only that this collection may exist, but what it might include and when we might expect it to release. Of course, because this is just a leak and Warner Bros. has not commented on the leak as of yet, it might be important to exercise some caution with the source until this is confirmed by Warner Bros. or Rocksteady. However, this photo, combined with information found on PEGI's official website that has an official PEGI rating of 16 and up for a Batman Arkham HD collection, this collection is all but officially confirmed. Here’s the leaked photo provided by Eurogamer:

Batman Return to Arkham Leak

The leaked photo actually gives us a lot of information about the possible collection, including its retail name, which appears to be Batman: Return to Arkham. This title is the same title found on PEGI's website, which further reinforces the idea that this leak is legitimate. The HD collection includes both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. The absence of Batman: Arkham Origins, although notable, is not entirely surprising. Origins was the only Batman Arkham game not developed by Rocksteady, and was instead developed by WB Montreal. Origins was not as well received critically as the rest of the games in the series. Check out TechRaptor’s review here. The collection will also include all DLC released for both of the games included, according to the leak.

The next thing to take away from the leak is the dates. The picture reveals that pre-orders for Return to Arkham begin April 19th, tomorrow. Therefore, it seems reasonable to expect that if the leak is legitimate, the official announcement for the collection will probably be made tomorrow. The game is also expected to launch on June 10th of this year for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Although the leak states that both games will be graphically updated for current generation consoles, specifics are not given.

While we wait for last gen Arkham games to come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Batman: Arkham Knight has already done extremely well on the current generation platforms. It was report back in October of last year by various sites that the game had sold over 5 million copies by in just under half a year. Despite the strong sales, however, Arkham Knight was notorious for its issues on PC, as is the series in general for its rocky launches time and time again on PC. Click here to read TechRaptor’s full review for Arkham Knight.

Quick Take

Although Arkham Origins may not have done well critically or commercially, I still don’t understand why Warner Bros. continually decides to ignore its existence time and time again. We saw it with the marketing for Arkham Knight when they would reference the series as a trilogy, and we’re seeing it again here. I just hope that when they officially announce this collection, they mention Origins, at least for the many people that worked on that game who probably want some kind of recognition for their contributions to the franchise.
