Get ready for a grander adventure — the Rogue Legacy 2 Drifting Worlds update has arrived, featuring the debut of the Drifthouse, the new Lancer and Boxer classes, a major optimization pass, and more!

Rogue Legacy 2 is the sequel to 2013's Rogue Legacy. In both cases, the game is all about jumping into a randomized world and trying to beat bosses, but there's a twist — should you die, your character is dead for good. Your adventure will continue when one of your descendants takes up your sword (and other equipment), over and over again until you achieve your ultimate victory.

This colorful sequel has been out since late Summer 2020, but Cellar Door Games certainly hasn't been slacking — it's already released a total of two major updates for the game. Now, it's time to dive into the third!

What's New in the Rogue Legacy 2 Drifting Worlds Update?

The first major addition in the Rogue Legacy 2 Drifting Worlds Update (via Reddit) is the debut of the Drifthouse. Previously, this building on the docks couldn't be accessed by the player; now, you can finally head inside. You'll find Charon's weird siblings within and they each have something interesting for you to discover. Geras the Caretaker will let you jump into the region of Erebus and earn unique trophies. On the other side of the building is Elpis, a figure that you can transport you between New Game Plus levels called "Threads" which allow you to customize your experience in new ways.

Naturally, a new major update also means new classes! The Lancer has a slow attack but high mobility along with the ability to execute a devastating forward charge. Take care not to miss, though, or you might fly right into something dangerous! The other new class is the Boxer, a melee warrior that specializes in close-quarters combat and landing the perfect knockout punch.

There are tons of other gameplay changes and enhancements, but that's not all that's gotten an overhaul — Cellar Door Games has made some "deep-level changes" in the game's code to better optimize things.

"We’ve spent more time optimizing the Drifting Worlds than every previous patch combined, and revamped much of the back-end," Cellar Door Games said in today's update announcement. "Our profiling has shown an improvement on GPU usage by several times, and while much was achieved, the job is still not finished."

These are just some of the changes that have launched today; you can read about all of the new stuff in the Rogue Legacy 2 Drifting Worlds Update patch notes. Want to grab this game for yourself? You can buy Rogue Legacy 2 on Steam for $15.99 or your regional equivalent, a 20% discount that lasts until May 24, 2021. You can also buy the original Rogue Legacy for PC, Mac, Linux, consoles, and iOS via its official website for $14.99.
