The bad news is that Rocket League's upcoming cross-platform party feature is being delayed until 2019 according to a news post on the game's official website. The good news? They're hopeful about Sony letting them bring PlayStation 4 into the mix thanks to their return change of heart on Cross-Play as evidenced by the Fortnite beta they're running.

Rocket League originally announced its plans for cross-platform support in May of 2018. Since then, the dev team has been hard at work getting everything working smoothly. Unfortunately, game development is a complicated business and they're going to have to delay the launch of the RocketID feature (and with it, cross-platform play) until sometime in 2019.

The upside is that Sony's decision to allow a beta of Cross-Play with Fortnite has bolstered their hopes that players will truly be able to play the game across all platforms. As a result of the delay, Psonyix is taking the time to work on making sure the PlayStation 4 will work in concert with the other platforms while they wait to get the green light from Sony. Although Sony has conceded their ground in the area of cross-platform gaming, their initial statements qualified that stance that they would be carefully selecting which third-party titles would be able to use this functionality.

Delays aside, Rocket League still has one more planned update to go in 2018 which will hopefully be released sometime in December. This update will include the beginning of the next Rocket Pass and a new suite of items to go with that service. An additional paid DLC tied to a licensing deal is also in the works. Psyonix asks that Rocket Pass holders send any feedback they might have on the system to their subreddit.

That's the broad strokes of the big points in this announcement; make sure to read the blog post for all the fine details. If you don't yet already own Rocket League, you can pick it up on Steam or the Humble Store for PC for $19.99 or your regional equivalent. Console players can get it at the Microsoft Store for the Xbox One, the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch, and the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4.
