Psyonix' smash hit Rocket League is getting a special Christmas event to celebrate the holiday season in style. Starting on December 14, players of the wacky competitive RC soccer game can look forward to duking it out on a new map, courtesy of the holiday-themed Snow Day mutator. The Christmas event will be freely available to everyone who owns the game on PC and PS4.
This new map, called the Snow Day mutator, will see players move from the familiar grass court to a snow-covered ice rink, swapping the regular soccer ball with an ice hockey puck. The Snow Day mutator will replace the current Mutator Mash-Up playlist until the end of the event on January 4th.
During the event players will also be able to get some winter-themed customization items, like the iconic santa hat and reindeer antlers, to give their cars a more festively appropriate look. In addition to this, players will be able to unlock a rocket trail called 'Xmas', Christmas tree, Blitzen and Sad Sapling toppers and Candy Cane and Holiday gift antenna. If you want these items you will need to be quick because these goodies will only be available until the event ends.
This is not the only bit of new content coming out for Rocket League in December. Players will be able to purchase the post-apocalyptic wasteland expansion Chaos Run on December 1, which will add a tonne of new decals, 2 cars and wheel types as well as new paint types, trails, toppers, antennas and trophies. The Chaos Run DLC pack will cost $3.99, but the new map included in the expansion will be available to you even if you didn't buy the DLC pack.
Quick Take
I'm loving the amount of support Psyonix is giving to Rocket League. The game has been one of the surprises of the year for me, and the continuous injection of new stuff into the game makes it all the more fun to keep coming back to it.
