The music rhythm franchise that dominated basements, dorm rooms, and lofts is returning this year, 2015.

RockBand

Rock Band 4 will release this year for Xbox One and Playstation 4 and will support all previously purchased DLC. In other words, every song you bought in previous iterations will be playable in Rock Band 4. Harmonix blog stated that more information will be available in the coming months. A full lineup of instruments will be avaiable from Mad Catz, and can be purchased in an all-in-one "Band In A Box" bundle which includes:

A Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller

Wireless Drum Kit and of course a Microphone

RB Drums and Mic

More information on these can be found at Mad Catz blog. Of course this means the survey we saw a while back turned out to be a true precursor to a Rock Band 4 announcement. Pre-ordering is not yet available but Harmonix has set up a page for consumers to be notified via email when pre-orders go live, which can be found here. Those who pre-order at PAX East can get an exclusive Penny Arcade styled guitar.

Being able to play past music is fantastic, though Harmonix only specified Playstation 3 content working on Playstation 4 and the same for Xbox consoles. No word yet on if Xbox 360 users could play their songs on Playstation 4. Given the 360 was the more popular console of last-gen, while, at least as of now Platstation 4 appears to be the sales leader, surely a number of potential players might run into this problem. This Harmonix forum page says

Players who’ve purchased or downloaded playable tracks on last-generation consoles will be able to download and play those tracks on their new platforms at no additional charge
Unfortunately it is unclear if their refers to the new iterations of the consoles, or whatever console that consumer owns. We will update the article if new information clears this up.

Are you planning to give Rock Band another go, and wild out in the living room with your buds again, or has this series retired for you? How do you feel about it? Will you be pre-ordering, or staying away from all that business? Let us know in the comments below!
