Update (11/01/2021, 1:42 PM Eastern Time) - The Roblox servers are finally back in working order after a serious outage that lasted for the duration of the weekend.
A new blog post from Roblox CEO David Baszucki explains what went wrong and apologizes for the outage over the last weekend of October 2021.
"Due to the difficulty in diagnosing the actual bug, recovery took longer than any of us would have liked," read the blog post (via Twitter). "Upon successfully identifying this root cause, we were able to resolve the issue through performance tuning, re-configuration, and scaling back of some load. We were able to fully restore service as of this afternoon."
Baszuki promises that a more detailed postmortem explaining the situation (and how it will be prevented in the future) will be coming once the company has completed its analysis of what went wrong.
Update (10/30/2021, 10:10 PM Eastern Time) - Roblox servers are still not in proper working order more than 48 hours after the outage began. Fortunately, the team working on it seems close to a fix.
"We believe we have identified an underlying internal cause of the outage," read a tweet on the game's official account. "We’re in the process of performing the necessary engineering and maintenance work to get Roblox back up and running ASAP. Thanks for your patience."
Update (10/29/2021, 7:17 PM Eastern Time) - The problems with the Roblox servers continue -- the problems have now been ongoing for 24 hours (and counting).
"Still making progress on today’s outage," read a tweet on the game's official account. "We’ll continue to keep you updated. Once again, we apologize for the delay. We know that this outage was not related to any specific experiences or partnerships on the platform."
We'll continue to monitor the situation. Our original story continues below.
Roblox servers have been down for nearly 24 hours as of Friday afternoon, presenting a serious problem for players who were looking to kick off the weekend with some fun games.
Much like Fortnite, Roblox has grown into a massive platform for user-created content. It has over 48 million players jumping into the game every day and has hosted musical events such as a "Listening Party" for singer-songwriter Poppy. There's tons of stuff to do, but no one is able to enjoy the game right now -- the servers have been down for the better part of a day (and counting).
Why Are Roblox Servers Down?
Roblox servers are down due to an unspecified technical issue. Unfortunately, this problem has still not fully been resolved, although Roblox Corporation is working on getting things back online.
The server problems were highlighted on Twitter by the @blox_status account. Since then, an official incident report has come online, noting that "many player [experiences] are impacted" by the outage. Currently, the servers are partially online. However, a poll ran by the @blox_status account with a total of 8,552 responses notes that 81.1% of players are still unable to play Roblox in any substantial manner.
Mind, this isn't the first time that Roblox has had problems with its servers; there were some pretty severe stability issues late last summer that rendered the game unplayable for some. These problems appeared to be related to external systems as several other games (such as Apex Legends) were also having issues at the same time.
There's currently no information as to when the Roblox servers will be fully back online; some players may be able to enjoy the game at the moment, but it's probably best to wait for the problem to be totally resolved. You can stay apprised of the situation by keeping an eye on the incident page and the official Roblox Twitter account. You can play Roblox for PC, mobile, and consoles via its official website.
