Multiple reports indicate that Roblox servers went down earlier today, preventing millions of gamers from logging in or playing the popular game.

Roblox is one of the biggest games in the world and it has more than its fair share of problems such as the potential for an FTC inquiry into deceptive advertising. With more than 48 million daily players as of late 2021, it's an immensely popular online game -- and now, it appears that something has gone badly wrong with its servers earlier today.

Why Were Roblox Servers Down?

There is not yet an explanation for why Roblox servers are down. However, the Roblox Status page indicated that the devs were aware of an "Active Incident" and that they were investigating the problem.

As the Roblox Status Twitter account reported, the outage appears to have started at around 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Considering the timing of the outage, this may be due to something going wrong with a server-side update. Subsequent reporting by the Roblox Status Twitter indicated that the game quickly shed 3.5 million active players, dropping the concurrent playercount down to 1 million concurrents.

Fortunately, it appears that the problem has been resolved at the time of writing. The official Roblox Status page has all of the game's services in the green, so it looks like this hiccup only brought the game down for less than an hour this afternoon. An incident report has not yet been added to the log for status issues, so we don't yet know what exactly went wrong at the time of writing.

This isn't the first time that there have been issues with the game's servers. Roblox servers went down for an entire weekend in late October 2021, prompting Roblox Corporation CEO David Baszucki to write a blog post explaining what took so long.

Considering last year's lengthy outage, the restoration of services does not necessarily mean that the problem is completely fixed. There's always the chance that the servers could go back down due to an unknown issue -- we'll update this article if there are any further developments on this front.
