The 2013 action-roguelike Risk of Rain is getting a remake! Risk of Rain Returns will be heading to Steam, and with it comes substantial tweaks to the features we all knew and enjoyed from the previous title.
The Community Manager of Hopoo Games announced via Steam that they are in the process of developing Risk of Rain Returns, a remake of the 2013 2D multiplayer platformer. The remake will feature enemies that get harder and harder as time passes, meaning players will be forced to find the perfect balance between running to collect new and improved weaponry and racing through the stages before the enemies become overpowered. The developers state that fans of the franchise should note this is not just a fresh coat of paint tacked onto the original game, but a complete overhaul of the initial title that features brand-new content. There is also a four-minute video discussing the devs thoughts on whats to come.
The devs have updated their codebase, allowing them to make updates and add features to the game which wasn't possible for them back in 2013. The pixel art has also gotten a makeover, as the remake will contain updated and "glorious" new pixel art. If the ambiance is more your thing, the sound effects and background music have also been tweaked, and we learn that Chris Christodoulou will be returning to add new soundtracks to the game as well.
The developers have decided to enhance the graphics and feel of the game, but doing so without taking away from the challenge and balance we knew and loved from the original title. Even so, the graphics and audio aren't the only new addition we will see, as there will be new survivors introduced later on down the line in development, and each of these survivors will bring new skills and abilities to utilize in battle.
