The new Risk of Rain 2 roadmap for 2021 has been released as part of a developer blog. In it, Hopoo Games talks about the expansion of the team, along with a 2021 roadmap for their title. While the blog is primarily focused on the Risk of Rain 2 2021 roadmap, there also three new developers added to the team, which increases Hopoo Games' workforce from 3 to 6.

First mentioned was Ben Schofield, a programmer, who works on "pretty much everything" ranging from UI, servers, and tools. The second developer added was Nick Bizzozero, who developed Strafe, and Javid "Snopepe" who worked on animation for Battle Chasers: Nightwar, along with some additional work on Darksiders: Genesis.

The Risk of Rain 2 roadmap for 2021 includes two separate things, the Anniversary Update that will be released in March 2021 and Expansion #1 that will be released in Q4 2021. The March 2021 update marks the 2nd year anniversary since Risk of Rain 2 was first released on Steam's Early Access, and the entire update is "aimed towards upgrading and rounding out the game as a whole." Overall, this means that there will be more lore entries, quality-of-life improvements, and the revisiting of the Grandfather boss, which was cut during development. Essentially, a lot of polishing will be done, including making the game more easily moddable and sustainable in the future.

The first expansion for the game will be the first-ever paid expansion for Hopoo Games. It will be 2-3 content updates in size, and will "easily be the biggest infusion of new content that RoR2 has received." This of course doesn't tell much, but there will be new everything, ranging from new survivors, bosses, enemies, random events, and music added to the game.
