Today, Argonwood has announced that Rising Lords, their medieval turn-based strategy game with card and board game elements, will launch its Alpha on March 31st.

Rising Lords is a turn-based strategy game that offers a "robust" single-player campaign and a simultaneous multiplayer for up to four players. For those not in the know, simultaneous means that each player is able to make their moves independently of the other players.

The title's single-player will allow players to collect resources and taxes and dictate rations and fieldwork. Players will also be able to forge weapons, build and fortify cities, raise armies, and use those armies to "reshape the battlefield".

The game will also have customization features, allowing players to tailor their leader's looks and skills while also building their cities and raising their armies. There will also be more than fifty different events and unique cards that can be used against enemy players, and the game stresses that players will be able to play "mind games" with their foes via Rising Lords' "advanced social interactions", whatever that means.

Quick Take:

While the old-timey font looks horrible, I am tentatively interested in this game. It reminds me a lot of Battle Brothers, but this game has online play, which seems like an interesting choice. I've been playing a lot of board games recently, and digital board games are usually far cheaper and easier to play, so I'm probably the target audience for this title. We'll just have to wait and see how this game shapes up because it's not even in Alpha yet and it's far too early to pass judgment.
