A Riot Games Hytale acquisition has been announced. Developer Hypixel Studios is now part of the League of Legends developer, adding another new game to their rapidly-expanding catalog of digital entertainment.

If you're not entirely familiar with Hypixel Studios' game, check out the Hytale Announcement Trailer to see what it's all about:

“We’ve been blown away by players’ response to Hytale, and Riot is the right partner to help us deliver a game that can live up to players’ expectations,” said Hypixel's newly-appointed CEO Aaron "Noxy" Donaghey in a news post from Riot. "As development kicks into high gear, we’ll benefit from Riot’s resources, expertise, and experience while maintaining the operational independence that has enabled our success so far."

In the midst of this acquisition, there's been a changeover in the CEO position. Simon has stepped down from the role, opening things up for Noxy to take his place.

Hytale had originally been created with a number of angel investors putting their money into the project. Riot Games was one of these investors, and it seems like they've liked what they've seen so far.

What does the Riot Games Hytale Acquisition Mean for the Future?

Hytale is still very much in development; the game is not expected to have its full launch until sometime in 2021. Still, the beta has been pretty successful, racking up 2.5 million signups for its beta.

Hypixel Studios won't let Riot's investment in them go to waste. While the company is keeping its current corporate structure, it will be opening up a permanent office in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It will also be hiring 20 new positions in the region to kick things off, with more growth expected as the game's development progresses.

One question remains: when and where will you be able to get Hytale? For now, you can head over to hytale.com/signup to register for the beta. As for where that beta will take place, I imagine that it will probably have its own dedicated launcher, just like VALORANT.
