Get ready for a very interesting gaming mash-up: Rim Effect is a RimWorld Mass Effect mod that overhauls the game with content from BioWare's iconic RPG series — and it just went live!
As you may know, RimWorld is a game that's all about managing a base with a bunch of colonists. It's not an easy task by far, but this sci-fi-themed strategy game provides players with plenty of challenge. On the other side of the coin, the Mass Effect games have entertained RPG fans for years. Now, the two are being brought together via a pretty cool fan-made mod.

The RimWorld Mass Effect Mod is an Ambitious Project
The RimWorld Mass Effect mod adds a substantial amount of content for players to enjoy. Best of all, it's not just a single standalone mod — you have the option to add a fair amount of content if you'd like.
Let's start with the Core mod — its creator describes it as similar to the Vanilla Factions Expanded mod and introduces a new "ultratech" faction called the Systems Alliance. This new faction has its own planetside bases, clothing, weapons, structures, and more. Naturally, there are some familiar faces included — you can choose either "John Paragon" or "Jane Renegade" as a storyteller.
Stepping things up a notch, you can toss in the Rim Effect N7 module to add the N7 operative to the Systems Alliance military. This expansion also includes some N7 equipment for your super-tough soldiers to use.
Not enough content for you? You can throw in the Rim Effect Extended Cut module and get even more stuff to play with! This includes a bunch of content that the creators felt wasn't necessary for the core module, but hey — sometimes having more options is better! You can also grab some kickin' tunes with the Rim Effect Music module featuring 61 music assets from the original Mass Effect trilogy.
Bear in mind, this is just the start — a number of additional modules are in development: Asari & Reapers, Cerberus, Quarians & Geth, Salarians & Krogans, and Turians & Gangs. No release dates have been announced for the additional modules just yet.
You can read more about the RimWorld Mass Effect mod in this recent Reddit submission; if you'd like, you can support this work (and future RimWorld modding) by subscribing to Oskar Potocki's Patreon. Of course, you can't play this mod without the base game — you can buy RimWorld on Steam starting at $34.99 or your regional equivalent.
