The RimWorld 1.2 Update has arrived, bringing with it a ton of new content for players to enjoy. Among the new additions is the debut of a "custom playstyle system" that will allow you to set up your game just the way you'd like.

Check out the RimWorld 1.2 Update video to see what's new in this major Summer 2020 update:

RimWorld, simply put, is a sci-fi colony simulator that starts off with a simple premise: you command three survivors of a shipwreck on a planet far away from civilization. From there, you'll have to build out a colony and try to keep everyone alive, meeting all of their needs and dealing with threats both internal and external.

There's no shortage of things to do as it is, but Ludeon Studios just added a boatload more content in the RimWorld 1.2 Update — and veteran players will be especially pleased with the new surprises.

What's New in the RimWorld 1.2 Update?

One of the biggest additions in the RimWorld 1.2 update is the addition of a custom playstyle system. As the Steam Community announcement notes, players will be able to adjust "a couple dozen different settings" in the game. Changing these settings will affect the game's balance, so the developer warns that they should only be used by experienced players.

The biggest part of the update, however, is an absolute boatload of new content making its debut. For starters, raids have a new system of generating loot. Players successfully completing a raid will gain a "single core reward" like a stack of drugs, medicine, jade, or plasteel. These rewards are chosen semi-randomly and placed in the inventory of the raiders.

Wearable belts have also gotten a pretty hefty buff. The Shield Belt works the same as before, but three other items are going to work a little differently now:

  • Smokepop Belt - Now triggers on use instead of automatically and can be used multiple times. It can also be reloaded with chemfuel.
  • Psychic Insanity Lance - Can now be carried and used twice before it's exhausted.
  • Psychic Shock Lance - As with the Psychic Insanity Lance, this can now be carried and used twice before it's spent.

In addition to these new goodies for the base game, the Royalty expansion has gotten a ton of new content including new Major Quests and changes to the various Psycasts in the game. You can read about all of the changes in the RimWorld 1.2 Update patch notes on Steam. If you haven't already bought this game, you can pick it up on Steam starting at $31.49 or your regional equivalent, a 10% discount that lasts until August 15, 2020.
