Lucas Pope's Return of the Obra Dinn console release date has been announced. The maritime adventure is coming to consoles on October 18th.
This news comes via Lucas Pope's official Twitter account. Pope says "all the heavy lifting" to get Return of the Obra Dinn on consoles is being handled by independent UK-based studio Warp Digital. Apparently, Warp Digital has "hit feature and performance parity" on all platforms, which Pope says is harder than it looks for a 1-bit 800x450 game. Sounds like Warp Digital's work with the game is impressive, so if you're playing on consoles, you'll get a solid experience.
In a series of replies to Pope's original tweet announcing the console release date, he expands a little on his development future. He says he's got his hands full with shipping Return of the Obra Dinn worldwide on three console platforms, so he's not currently thinking about a new game. In addition, Pope says he's "reasonably confident" about a physical collector's edition-style release, but that it likely won't happen for a few months at least. Finally, the news PlayStation 4 owners will have been waiting for: Return of the Obra Dinn on PS4 will have a Platinum trophy to collect.
Return of the Obra Dinn is a puzzle-adventure game created by Papers, Please developer Lucas Pope. The game takes place almost entirely on board the Obra Dinn, a ship on which all crew and passengers have mysteriously disappeared. Armed with the Memento Mortem, a pocketwatch capable of viewing a corpse's last moments, you must piece together what's happened to the crew and why. It's currently available on Steam, but the Return of the Obra Dinn console release date will have it launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on October 18th.
