GameStop is going old school once again.

Starting on April 25th, select GameStop stores in New York City and Birmingham will be taking in retro consoles and games. Over 250 stores in both markets will participate in this program.

According to a GameStop spokesperson, "games, systems and select accessories for most 'retro' platforms." will be available to trade in. The current platforms include the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, SEGA Genesis and Dreamcast, The Nintendo 64, and the Sony Playstation.

The spokesperson also stated that GameStop "will bring all of the product back through the Refurbishment Operations Center for inspection, testing and repair." Products traded into the store will be off shelves for roughly two months before being resold to the public. GameStop hopes that this two month period will give the company "time to build up a good assortment for retro games fans to select from when shopping."

GameStop is also not just selling retro games and consoles in their storefronts, but plans on having a major online presence as well. GameStop is also promising to have purchases made available through both their website, and web-in-store system, although the two month wait period to rebuy retro games and consoles still apply.

Overall GameStop believes that the program will "increase the number of games GameStop offers either for sale or to purchase by "about 5000," according to their spokesperson. If the program is successful in these two markets, then GameStop will also expand their retro console markets nationally later in the year.

This is not the first time GameStop has went back to older consoles. Previously, GameStop announced last month that they will be taking in Playstation 2 consoles for $25 store credit.  GameStop has also recently attempted to expand their business into the used phone and tablet market, but it has been met with mixed results.
