Upcoming multiplayer shooter Resident Evil Re:Verse has been delayed to 2022. The game, which was slated to come out this month, will see players take on the role of iconic franchise characters as they battle one another using monstrous mutations.

Why has Resident Evil Re:Verse been delayed?

According to a tweet on the official Resident Evil Twitter account, the delay is so the team can keep "working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience". The team thanks fans for their "patience and understanding", but doesn't provide a more specific date beyond simply "2022". Capcom and the Resident Evil Re:Verse team say they'll share updated launch information at a later date, so it might be a little while before we hear more about a new Resident Evil Re:Verse release date.

You'll have to wait a little longer for the multiplayer madcap mayhem of Resident Evil Re:Verse.

Resident Evil Re:Verse was set to launch this month. It was thought to be a multiplayer component that would accompany the launch of Resident Evil Village when leaked, but it has its own Steam store page, suggesting that it may well be getting a standalone release at some point in the future as well. There aren't any standalone pages for the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store, though. This isn't a great setback given that Resident Evil Re:Verse was originally intended to launch as part of Resident Evil's 25th anniversary, but perhaps Capcom can launch it in time for the first anniversary of Resident Evil Village instead.

What is Resident Evil Re:Verse?

Capcom describes Resident Evil Re:Verse as a game in which "beloved Resident Evil characters clash in a fight to the death". It'll feature iconic characters from the franchise's history such as Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, and Claire Redfield, as well as monsters like the Nemesis, the Tyrant, and the Baker family from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Gameplay will consist of six-person deathmatch battles in which you'll need to use the power of the series' iconic bioweapons to stay on top.

When it does arrive, Resident Evil Re:Verse will bring frantic six-player deathmatches featuring iconic characters from across the franchise's history.

We'll likely learn more about Resident Evil Re:Verse in the coming weeks and months as we get closer to the new release window. In the meantime, you can wishlist the game on Steam if you want. Resident Evil Re:Verse is now slated to come out sometime in 2022. It'll be available at no additional cost to those who've purchased Resident Evil Village.
