Looking to expand the roster of Resident Evil games available on the Nintendo Switch, Capcom USA announced on Twitter that Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 will all be ported to the console in 2019, with more information about the releases coming soon. They’ll be joining Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 on the Nintendo Switch representing the survival horror franchise (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is also available on Switch in Japan via streaming).

Resident Evil, the game that kickstarted the zombie horror franchise and arguably helped to define the genre, was initially released for PlayStation in 1996 and was given a remastered re-release in 2002 for GameCube. It’s currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Resident Evil 0, despite the misleading name, was actually the fifth main entry in the series, serving as a prequel to the original game. Released for GameCube initially, it was given an HD remaster and released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The remasters of both 0 and the first installment are also available as the Resident Evil Origins Collection on select platforms.

Resident Evil 4 is arguably the most well-known and well-loved game in the series, starring franchise poster boy Leon Kennedy. This is the game that is credited with helping to refocus the games to the survival horror genre that they initially started out as. Released in 2005 for, you guessed or remembered it, GameCube, it was ported over to the PlayStation 2 and was also ported forward for subsequent generations. You can play it on basically everything since it released, aside from the 3DS (surprisingly), including mobile devices.

As of now, Capcom has not announced plans to release the upcoming 2019 remaster of Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo Switch.

Are you going to pick up these new additions to the Nintendo Switch line-up in 2019? What other Capcom titles would you like to see ported over? Clamoring for the remaster of 2 to be added to the Switch? Will Leon ever stop collecting eggs? Let us know in the comments below!
