Resident Evil 7 Preview

Capcom's latest zombie-thrashing game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has shipped 2.5 million copies, according to a press release from Capcom.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard tells the story of Ethan Winters, a man who is lured to a plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana after receiving a message from his wife who had been missing for three years. Unlike many previous titles in the series, Ethan Winters is a civilian who doesn't have any notable combat training. The game marks a return to the horror roots of the series, de-emphasizing the action elements that sprung up around the time of Resident Evil 4.

The game is notable for being the first core title in the Resident Evil series to feature VR support via the PlayStation VR. This is a timed exclusive, which expires in 12 months after the release of the game; after that point, the potential for Vive or Rift support becomes a possibility. (Of course, that assumes that modders don't beat Capcom to the punch.)

While the number of shipped copies doesn't necessarily correlate with sales, publishers probably wouldn't send out a boatload of physical copies if they weren't expecting game stores to move them. Interest in the game is certainly high; it was the most downloaded demo of a Resident Evil title ever. Steam Spy reports that there are 141,588 owners of the game (±10,849), although it's important to note that the service tracks owners of the title and not sales. Capcom has not yet released any official sales data for the title.

If you're interested in picking up Resident Evil 7: Biohazardyou can grab it on multiple platforms: Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. You can also grab a Steam copy of the game for 20% off at Green Man Gaming [Affiliate Link].
