Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 4 remake has hit another major sales milestone. The game, which launched just a couple of weeks ago on March 24th, has crossed 4 million sales, and the free Mercenaries mode is available starting from today as DLC, too. It's a good day to be a Resident Evil fan.

In late March, it was announced that the Resident Evil 4 remake had reached 3 million sales within just two days. Now, a press release from Capcom confirms that the game has increased that figure by another million, reaching 4 million units sold within the space of two weeks. Not bad, Leon.

In total, this announcement brings the Resident Evil series to over 135 million units sold since the debut of the original Resident Evil back in 1996. Once again, Capcom attributes the success of the franchise (and Resident Evil 4 in particular) to "continuous support from the passionate fan base". It's hard to disagree with that.

The free Mercenaries mode is also available from today as DLC for Resident Evil 4. In this fan favorite mode, your task is to defeat as many enemies as you can within a time limit, aiming for the highest score possible. Stylish or skilful kills, like headshots or melee kills, will net you extra time, and you can also collect Time Orbs from around the map, giving yourself some breathing room. You can check out the PlayStation Blog post on Resident Evil 4's Mercenaries mode to learn more about what's in store for you.

Resident Evil 4 is available right now for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox Series X|S. The game doesn't appear to be coming to Xbox One anytime soon, unfortunately, so if you're an Xbox player, it looks like you'll have to plump for one of Microsoft's current-gen machines. We'll bring you more on Resident Evil 4 as soon as we get it, so stay tuned.
