Classic rail shooter series The House of the Dead is getting remakes of its first two games, according to a Polish website. Forever Entertainment, responsible for the Panzer Dragoon remakes, takes the reins of the project. Translated into English, the post on Graczpospolita informs readers the remakes will feature "new graphics adapted to modern standards and slightly modified gameplay, but will fully preserve the original scenario."

The post does not announce any platforms, nor does it explain how the lightgun mechanics will work. However, Forever Entertainment will release teasers in the upcoming months. They also expect to release the first remake sometime next year.

The House of the Dead, known for cheesy graphics, dialogue, and abysmal voice acting, shambled to arcade cabinets in 1996. Alongside Resident Evil, The House of the Dead brought zombies into the gaming industry in the mid-90s. Several sequels and spinoffs followed, including a (widely-panned) film directed by Uwe Boll. Other parts of the franchise include the infamous Typing of the Dead and a Game Boy Advance pinball game.

As a rail shooter, players progress through The House of the Dead by traversing different paths. Along the way, they rescue (or condemn) civilians to the zombie menace. Various paths offer different story tidbits, challenges, bosses, and endings. Forever Entertainment plans to update the remakes and bring them into the modern age, but so far details are scarce. The developers have yet to release any sort of screenshots or trailers.

Quick Take

Y'all remember CarnEvil? I remember walking past arcade cabinets for CarnEvil all the time while growing up. It seemed to be everywhere. The Resident Evil series dipped its toes into similar territory with Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles for the Wii. Could rail shooters make a comeback with the advent of VR? Only time will tell.

Because so little is revealed at this time, continue checking back with TechRaptor as it develops. Are you looking forward to a remake of the first two The House of the Dead games? As always, let us know in the comments below.
