Red Dead Redemption Coming to Xbox One on Friday

If you're looking for a fresh hit of nostalgia this weekend, Rockstar Games has you covered! Major Nelson announced in a tweet that the Rockstar classic Red Dead Redemption will be making its way to the Xbox One on Friday as part of the Backwards Compatibility Program!

Red Dead Redemption is Rockstar's open world formula applied to the common tropes and feel of old school spaghetti western films and tells the story of John Marston, a former outlaw, as he tries to find members of his old gang in order to get amnesty for himself and his family. red Dead Redemption sees players travel to a bunch of locations set in a fictionalized version of 2 American counties, as well as a fictitious Mexican state.

Everyone who owns the original Xbox version of the game (which edition you have doesn't matter) will be able to download the Xbox One version this Friday. Fun fact: people really want to play this game again. The sales for Red Dead Redemption have dramatically spiked on Amazon since the announcement. The timing is also quite interesting when you consider that some info leaked recently that seemed to confirm the existence of Red Dead Redemption 2. Maybe the original coming to a current-gen console is a move on Rockstar's part to reintroduce the franchise into the public eye?

Players on the PlayStation 4 won't be getting Red Dead Redemption (at least, not yet), but they are now able to play a different Rockstar classic: The Warriors. This game, based on the 1979 cult movie of the same name, follows the titular gang as they try to make their way back to their home turf in New York City, running into other gangs in the process. The Warriors features large-scale brawling that at the time of the game's released caused some controversy due to the violent nature of the game's characters, plot, and gameplay. The Warriors is available for download on the PlayStation Store for $9,99.

Whichever console you might own (maybe you own both), there's no doubt that you'll have something to play this weekend!

What do you think of these classic Rockstar games coming to the current generation of consoles? Which one are you looking forward to play the most? Sound off in the comments and let us know!

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
