The current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is definitely affecting the video game industry in terms of development and hiring the necessary talent to complete the audio and visual parts of the respective title. Developer Firefly Studios decided its time the community lent a helping hand towards Stronghold: Warlords' screams, shrieks, and audio cues.
The developer sent out a press release, giving Stronghold: Warlords' fans an open invitation to record their screams and send it to the team for review, and you could get lucky enough for your loud screech to feature in the game as the dying scream of any in-game character. Anyone interested should hop on Firefly Studios' Discord and go to the #screams-of-stronghold channel for more details regarding the technicalities you need to follow and the submission process.
Composer and Sound Designer, Robert Euvino, believes it is a good opportunity for the community to get involved in shaping Stronghold: Warlords' experience. Firefly Studios decided on the announcement mainly due to the travel and social distancing restrictions limiting the studio's ability to hire any voice actors or rent any recording studios. Turns out this entire situation is a blessing in disguise as we might just discover hidden talents developers can use once this is all over.
These are troubling times. People are concerned about their health, loved ones and jobs. It got me thinking, this might be a good opportunity to have a little bit of fun with fans of the game and include them in a manner which we've never really tried before.
If you're stressed, screaming can also be a good relief, according to Dialectical behavior therapy. Thus you can get a chance to star, and work out some frustration/stress/anxiety at the same time.
Stronghold: Warlords is expected to release some time later this year on Steam. Make sure to check out the competition announcement in the video shared below.
