Read Only Memories, a retrofuturistic pixel point and click game by Midboss, is getting its first "big" DLC on Janurary 2nd as well as mobile and console ports according to an announcement on the game's Steam community page.
The DLC will be titled "ROM EX V1" and is releasing free for all owners of Read Only Memories on January 22nd. The "EX" stands for "Endless Christmas", and the DLC focuses on adding post-game content to allow players to get more time with the game. Players who want to access the DLC will have to have attained the "canon" ending in order to unlock this new mode that comes in the DLC.
The game has recently launched on Amazon Fire TV. Read Only Memories Type M will be launching on iOS and Android mobile devices somewhere in the neighborhood of March or April 2016.
Furthermore, an enhanced version of the game called Read Only Memories DX will be coming to consoles. There will be additional visual effects such as CRT emulation. Voice acting will be included for "major scenes", and there will be new sidequests as well as improvements to existing puzzles. The specific consoles that Read Only Memories DX is launching on have not yet been mentioned, but the content is going to remain a timed console exclusive. The additional content in the console version will eventually make its way to owners of the game on PC, Mac, and Linux for free.
Read Only Memories is the first game made by Midboss. Their previous work includes the documentary Gaming In Color, a documentary that explores "the queer side of gaming" and GaymerX, a yearly convention that "creates a fun and safe space for gamers and gaymers of all identities to have fun".
