Another month has come and gone, and as we settle into September, it's time to take a look back at Raptr's most played PC games for August 2014.

July was one of the hottest months on record, and saw the total number of gameplay-hours tracked across Raptr's userbase of over 30 million gamers rise a whopping 30.19% over June, with gamers turning to their PCs to beat the heat. August, too, saw a rise in the number of hours Raptr members spent gaming, albeit a more modest 2.4% over June.

Leading the charge, for the fifth month in a row, was League of Legends, whose playtime rose nearly three percentage points since June, to account for a total of 20.55% of game-time. The rise in playtime over last month was likely due to the LCS Playoffs, which began on August 19th and concluded on August 24th, with Team 8 winning the summer playoffs.

World of Warcraft claims the number two spot for August, trading spots with DOTA 2, which saw a significant dip in playtime versus July. World of Warcraft's slight bump can likely be attributed to a 50% drop in price for its latest expansion, Mists of Pandaria that occurred in mid-August, breathing a bit of new life into the game for $9.99.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive holds steady at number four for the third straight month, while third-person action MOBA, Smite, rises five spots from the previous month to round out the top five. Interestingly, free-to-play games account for only four of the top ten games, but ten of the top twenty overall.
