Some more details have emerged regarding id Software and Avalanche's upcoming FPS RAGE 2.

First up, RAGE 2 will be strictly single-player. The original RAGE had two online multiplayer modes: "Road Rage", which saw players competing in a destruction derby-style free-for-all, and "Wasteland Legends", a series of 2-player co-op missions which could also be played locally with a friend. RAGE 2 will not have any kind of multiplayer content, though, either locally or online.

Speaking to Eurogamer, designer Magnus Nedfors said that the teams were "just focussed on the best open-world single-player game that [they] can make". Nedfors said it's his personal belief that "you can make single-player games really fantastic, so that's what we're focused on". Sorry, multiplayer fans, but it looks like this one's strictly for the loners.

Secondly, good news for PC, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One X players: RAGE 2 will be able to hit a solid 60FPS on those platforms. The game shares the Apex Engine with Avalanche titles like Mad Max, Just Cause 4 and theHunter: Call of the Wild, which makes this technically the first id Software game for a while that doesn't use the id Tech engine (although it's being developed in conjunction with Avalanche, so perhaps it doesn't count). Unfortunately for owners of the base PS4 and Xbox One consoles, those versions won't be able to manage 60FPS, so if you're looking for a buttery-smooth experience you might want to fork out for an upgraded model.

RAGE 2 takes place in the year 2185 and will focus on Walker, one of the few remaining Rangers in the wasteland. Walker must seek vengeance against the Authority, the antagonists of the first game, for taking his home. The game sees many elements from the first game returning, such as vehicle combat, the iconic Wingstick projectile, and Mutant enemies. RAGE 2 will expand on the first game's vehicle combat and make it more of a focus, with more customization options available.

The game was originally announced back in May of this year, with more details being made available during Bethesda's E3 2018 conference.
