If you own a Playstation 4 and a Playstation Vita, chances are you've utilized the PS4 Remote Play functionality. That functionality, if you haven't, allows you to stream your console to your PS Vita Device over your network (or the web if your connections are strong enough and you have the ports open) so that you can play games that allow for Remote Play.

Up until recently, Playstation 4 owners have only been able to use Remote Play via their PS Vita Devices, but an official app was made available on November 23rd for £6.50 (Approx. $9.77) to anyone looking to play their Playstation 4 remotely on their Windows machine. If you're looking to play on Android, there's even an unofficial app for that, which you can find a download link and instructions to here.

While it's unclear as to whether or not it's in response to this application, yesterday, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida made an announcement in regards to an "official" application:

With the Microsoft Xbox One already having the functionality with its Windows 10 Operating System, it's definitely possible that Sony already had this application already in development before the unofficial application was announced to be in development, too. Unfortunately for gamers, the tweet above is the only information we have on the upcoming official application, but hopefully there will be more news soon to report on.

Quick Take

When I got my Playstation 4, I already had a Vita, so one of the first extended features I tried was the Remote Play on my local network, followed by over the web with opened firewall ports from my work - both of which worked awesome. The opportunity to play on PC would be fantastic as well, especially if you've got a really comfy setup in your computer area! I'll be paying close attention to this as it progresses.

Are you using the unofficial PS4 Remote Play Application? If not, will you use the official one when it's released?
