The latest major update for Destiny called Rise of Iron is now a week away and on top on a new raid, strikes, and more private matchmaking is going to be added. The private matchmaking has launched early for owners on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Today Major League Gaming held their first ever Destiny Private Match competition and announced that it will be available today for everyone to enjoy. This update will be accessible to all players of Destiny regardless of whether they have purchased the upcoming DLC or not as long as they own the game on a current gen console. This further reinforces the move that Bungie is making away from the last gen systems, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, who aren't going to be receiving the Rise of Iron update at all.

With private matchmaking players will be able to invite both friends and foes alike and select any of the 18 different competitive modes available in Destiny across any of the almost 30 playable maps.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is launching for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on the 20th of September and will take players over the wall in the Cosmodrome. It's available to preorder, or for new players, it is available to purchase in Destiny The Collection which includes the base game and all DLC including Rise of Iron.

Quick Take

Private matchmaking is a feature that many people have been wanting for a long time. With its inclusion, there are a variety of new avenues that Bungie might be wanting to take the franchise. Allowing players to pick who they play against could be the first step in creating an eSport community around Destiny like we have seen for other games recently like Halo creating its own championship series. This might also be a way for Bungie to create more incentive for last gen players to make the big leap.
