We now have an Arcadian Atlas release window. The strategy RPG, which was Kickstarted all the way back in 2016, is scheduled to launch for PC via Steam next year. It's definitely one to check out if you're a big Final Fantasy Tactics fan.
When is the Arcadian Atlas release window?
When you think Final Fantasy Tactics and Kickstarter, you might immediately think of Unsung Story, which finally entered Early Access back in late 2020. However, there's another major Kickstarter project that hearkens back to the halcyon days of Ivalice, and that's Arcadian Atlas. The game was originally due to launch all the way back in 2018, but that obviously didn't happen. Now, developer Twin Otter Studios and publisher Serenity Forge have announced a rough Arcadian Atlas release window of summer 2023, when the game is due to hit PC via Steam. You can check out the new release window announcement trailer right here.
What exactly is Arcadian Atlas?
If you've played a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics before, then the basic idea behind Arcadian Atlas will probably be familiar to you; Square's game has left a lasting legacy, and this politically-charged SRPG is part of that legacy. You play as Desmond and Vashti, two lovers who are caught up in a political conflict between their queen and her illegitimate daughter. Amongst this intrigue, a young girl stumbles on an artifact called the Atlas, which has tremendous power, and that artifact will come into play in devastating ways.
Gameplay-wise, Arcadian Atlas is an isometric strategy RPG with an emphasis on tactical decision-making and job classes (yup, just like Final Fantasy Tactics). At the start of each fight, you'll place your troops in formation, then do battle with your enemy, using a wide variety of weapons and magic in order to inflict damage. You'll need to avoid traps, carefully plan your approach, and create custom classes from four different trees, each of which offers a different strength in combat.
You'll be able to get your hands on Arcadian Atlas when it launches for PC via Steam in summer 2023. Make sure to add it to your wishlist if you're hankering for some more old-school strategy RPG action (although there's still no word on whether you'll be able to place bets with fake money on this one). Stay tuned for TechRaptor for more info on this promising-looking game.
